Welcome to this week’s e-news.

Last Thursday and Friday afternoon Leanne and I attended the Kier North East and Interserve Construction’s Christmas drinks and it was great to catch up with so many of you. We would like to thank everyone at Kier North East and Interserve Construction for a couple of fantastic afternoons.

This week has been busy as we officially launched our Constructing Excellence North East 2016 Awards on Tuesday morning. We would like to thank everyone who came along to the launch especially Ian Storer, Executive Director for Corepeople Recruitment who are headline sponsor for the sixth year in a row and for the kind words he gave in encouragement for those to enter. We would also like to thank Mike Wade from our National SME of the Year winner Hodgson Sayers for his contribution and enthusiasm on how and why you should enter and what it has meant to them as a business. Yesterday I was a guest of Clothier Lacey & Co at the Lord Taverners Christmas Lunch with special guest Phil Tufnell. I had a very enjoyable afternoon and would like to thank Philippa and Leigh for their wonderful hospitality.

Tomorrow is the last First Friday Club of 2015 being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Newcastle and Leanne will look forward to seeing you all to welcome the festive season! If you are interested in sponsoring a First Friday Club event in 2016 please contact us for further details.

I will be attending the Northern Housing Consortium Lunch at Ramside Hall as guests of Elliott Associates and it will be great to catch up with so many of you there too.

Next week we have one event taking place on Tuesday morning with our G4C group and in association with NLP. Jennifer Nye and Dominic Smith of NLP will look at the drivers of the housing policy, what is the potential impact and a review on the recent Queen’s speech. CENE & G4C North East Awards are now officially OPEN! 

This week we were delighted to launch our Constructing Excellence in the North East and Generation 4 Change Awards on Tuesday with thanks to Ian Storer, Executive Director of Corepeople Recruitment for his kind words and encouragement to those to enter! Thank you to Hodgson Sayers & FaulknerBrowns Architects who were also in attendance to guide & support organisations on how to make an award winning entry.

14/12/2015 - CDM Regulations 2015 for Principal Designers and Designers  

Date: 14th December 2015

This course is designed for those holding the role of Designer or Principal Designer under the new CDM regulations 2015.

Course attendance will ensure that Principal Designers and Designers are aware of their responsibilities under CDM 2015.

The new CDM regulations came into force on April 6th 2015. There are several changes that will affect the duties of designers. The removal of the role of CDM co-ordinator and the new role of Principal Designer being a main change. The new regulations extend the prescribed duties into more work with domestic clients.

Principal Designers will be required to co-ordinate H&S aspects of the design in the preconstruction phase and liaise with the Principal Contractor to help in the planning, monitoring and co-ordination of the construction phase.

This course will identify the new and existing requirements and the guidance you need to ensure you comply.

- Review of duty holders responsibilities 
- Domestic Clients duties
- Review of necessary documentation

Networking is the lifeblood of business large and small as it is vital to have strong supply chains and reliable contacts that can provide you with key market information as well as advice and support.

But networking can be a daunting prospect – especially if you are new to it.

Meryl Levington, Managing Director or Actif will give a short guide on how to make the most of opportunities around you and how to spot which networks you and your organisation need to be part of and which you can ditch.

Secondly Kathryn Dishman, Managing Director of PR and social media consultancy KD Communications, will discuss how to create a personal brand via social networks and how to use it effectively to expand networks and build business relationships.

James Ritchie of James Ritchie Architects will discuss:

For the first time in the region Generation for Change North East will be holding an Awards to celebrate the outstanding examples of excellence and best practice within our sector and the region.

The Awards evening will look to award individuals/organisations from six categories and this will take place at the Hilton NewcastleGateshead on Friday 1st April 2016.

G4C is passionate about focusing on young people and showcasing the young talent in the industry. We are looking to celebrate achievements of this young talent and the organisations supporting and shaping the future leaders of our industry. We know that the construction industry in this area is of a high standard so let’s prove it!

NAWIC North East are delighted to be holding a Christmas networking evening at Richardsons Garden Centre with an actual real reindeer at the event!
