Capturing the Built Environment

Together, we the construction industry, design, build, restore and protect the incredible landmarks which make the North East one of the richest and most diverse landscapes in Britain.

As part of our programme of events marking 15 years of Constructing Excellence in the North East , we are holding a photography competition showcasing excellence in our Built Environment. An exhibition of the best photos will be shown at the Crystal Ball on Saturday 29th September 2018, when the winners will be announced.

The competition is open to anybody who works in the industry, except those who are professional photographers.

How to Enter & Conditions of Entry

  1. Entry is open to anybody who works in the industry, except those who are professional photographers.
  2. The subject can be any aspect of the built environment in the North East, taken since 1st April 2003.
  3. Images should be a minimum of export 3600 long edge & at 300 dpi, submitted in jpeg format and named in the following way:

nameofimage_firstnameofphotographer_lastname.jpeg

e.g. durhamcathedral_john_smith.jpeg

  1. A maximum of 5 photos per entry are to be submitted by email with the following information:
  • Photo Competition in the email subject line
  • Your name
  • Contact details
  • Details about the image(s): title, subject and locations with the file name as a reference
  1. Images may be cropped (whilst retaining standard image dimensions), enhanced (e.g. brightened /lightened), but the content must not be manipulated (i.e. any content moved/added/removed)
  2. The judges reserve the right exclude any image they believe has been excessively treated, altering its authenticity.
  3. The judging panel will comprise of professional photographers, CENE Chair, CENE Chief Exec, and other high-profile people from the industry.
  4. No person should break any health and safety rule of any construction site or other location in any way to obtain a photograph. Any evidence of photos being taken in an unsafe environment or manner will not be admissible. Any photograph of a working site must depict safe working practices.
  5. The photo(s) must be your own work and must not infringe the rights of any other party.
  6. If the photo is of a working site or recently completed project, the client’s permission must be obtained.
  7. The Promoter of this competition is CENE, e-volve Business Centre, Cygnet Way, Rainton Bridge South Business Park, Houghton-le-Spring, DH4 5QY.
  8. You must own the copyright of each picture entered and you will retain copyright. However, in entering the competition you are granting CENE a royalty-free, worldwide license to publish images in print and electronic format for purposes connected with CENE and the promotion of the construction industry without acknowledgement (although a credit may be given if appropriate). No fees will be payable. CENE retains the right to pass to a 3rd party to promote construction e.g. the media. Each prize winner consents to the Promoter publishing their name and home town/city in publicity for the competition.
  9. CENE reserves the right to cancel this competition or amend the rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion and if circumstances arise outside of its control.
  10. The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  11. The winners will be announced and prizes presented at the Crystal Ball, 29th September 2018, where the shortlisted entries will be exhibited.
