Welcome to this week’s e-news.

Last Friday afternoon I was guest of Elliott Associates at the Northern Housing Consortium Christmas Lunch at Ramside Hall Hotel. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and lovely to catch up with so many of you there. I would like to thank David Pearson and his colleagues from Elliott Associates for their kind hospitality.

Also on Friday Leanne attended the final First Friday Club of 2015 which was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Newcastle. Leanne tells me it was a very festive afternoon with Prosecco and sweet mince pies! The next First Friday Club for 2016 will be held on Friday 5th February and details of this will be available in the New Year.

On Tuesday morning was our final event for 2015 with our young professionals group Generation 4 Change North East (G4C) which was supported by the RTPI Young Planners and hosted by DAC Beachcroft. Dominic Smith and Jennifer Nye, both senior planners at NLP, gave an update on planning following the general election. Dominic and Jennifer discussed the housing policy and the implications the policy may have on housing development and the economy. The session was very good with some great feedback for another session in 2016. If you were unable to attend and would like further information please contact Leanne.

Yesterday evening Leanne and I attended the National Association of Women in Construction North East Christmas Networking at Richardson’s Garden Centre. It was a good night to catch up with the NAWIC members and to hear what they are getting up to in 2016. We even got to feed the garden centre’s reindeer which was great fun! If you would like to be involved with NAWIC NE by being on their committee or supporting the events, please contact Leanne for their schedule of events or follow them on Facebook – NAWIC North East.

Next week I am in London on Tuesday attending the Constructing Excellence House of Commons Christmas Reception. I am excited to hear about what is coming up for Constructing Excellence in the new year and also catch up with my national and regional colleagues along with the national members who support us.

Please note from last week’s newsletter that the office will be closed from 12.00 noon on Friday 18th December and will reopen at 9.00am on Monday 4th January. We will both still have our mobiles on during the festive period so if there is anything urgent please contact us, all contact details are on our website

Don’t forget to enter for the 2016 Constructing Excellence and Generation4Change North East Awards, if you would like us to come to see you to discuss your nomination/project please get in touch with Leanne to arrange an appointment.

Best wishes

Networking is the lifeblood of business large and small as it is vital to have strong supply chains and reliable contacts that can provide you with key market information as well as advice and support.

But networking can be a daunting prospect – especially if you are new to it.

Meryl Levington, Managing Director or Actif will give a short guide on how to make the most of opportunities around you and how to spot which networks you and your organisation need to be part of and which you can ditch.

Secondly Kathryn Dishman, Managing Director of PR and social media consultancy KD Communications, will discuss how to create a personal brand via social networks and how to use it effectively to expand networks and build business relationships.

We will then let you the audience take some of these fantastic hints/tips and put them into practice with your fellow colleagues in the room!
