Howdon Wastewater Treatment Works Site Visit

We’re looking forward to an exciting site visit to Howdon Wastewater Treatment Works with our Innovation Group. A vital part of the region’s environmental infrastructure serving Tyneside and surrounding areas – a population of around one million.

The site showcases some of the most advanced wastewater treatment technologies, including:

– Primary, secondary, and seasonal UV treatment to protect local bathing waters
– Advanced Anaerobic Digestion and Gas to Grid processes that convert wastewater sludge into green energy

Together with its counterpart at Bran Sands on Teesside, NWG (Northumbrian Water Group) are proud to be the only UK water company using 100% of its wastewater sludge for renewable energy – a circular approach turning waste into valuable resource.
