The Sector Theme Groups are designed to inform and promote good practice across North East England and beyond. By harnessing the wealth of knowledge and experience of our industry members and partners, the groups will identify opportunities for the region’s development, building on existing good practice to deliver a more productive sector, delivering long term value and sustainability for society in the North East of England and beyond.

Construction Clients Group

The Construction Clients Group brings together a diverse range of north east construction clients to collaborate and drive transformation in the construction sector to deliver improved societal benefits. The group will work across all sectors of industry, supporting both informed, large repeat clients and the less experienced clients that do not have consistent build programmes or in-house expertise to call upon. It will also provide a safe and secure place, enabling clients to have open and honest discussions with their peers on the challenges they are facing. Activity will be aligned to the One Voice Action Plan supporting One Voice, the North East England Construction Strategy, including the North East Value Toolkit, working with the Construction Innovation Hub. It is accepted that activity will be amended to meet the changing needs of the industry in the region.

Skills Group

The functionality and relationship between the skills needs of the construction industry with that of the Education and Training provision from universities, colleges and private training providers has at best been varied, disconnected and at worst not ‘fit for purpose’. The skills needs of our industry are driven by sector turnover and workloads; whilst the provision aspect of such skills are often time-related, demand and profit driven and often are not directly correlated to the immediate needs of employers and the wider industry. The aims and objectives of both employers and education and training providers need to be strategically aligned so that the skills requirements of our industry are met at macro and micro levels as and when they are needed.

The Skills Group works across all sectors of the construction industry, supporting employers of all sizes, and seeks to obtain a greater understanding of the construction skills agenda in North East England.
